Ransomware is a version of malware that restricts access to your computer and demands a payment (ransom) from you, in order for the restriction to be removed. Quite often ransomware encrypts your files or simply locks your system and displays messages designed to force the user into paying. For example one of our recent customers had an laptop that displayed a message saying “you are suspected of copyright violation and unauthorized access to the licensed software, you will need to purchase a MoneyPak with the nominal value of 100 dollars to decrypt your files”. This ransomware also prevented access to all of his personal files. Even once we removed the ransomware from the computer; the files remained encrypted, preventing access to them.
